The CE marking is a mandatory entry label for the EU market. Products affixed with the CE marking prove compliance with EU requirements on safety, health and environmental protection, serving as the basic threshold for accessing the EU market. We sort out the requirements clearly in this article.
1. Wired Electronic Products
Mandatory scope covers CE‑EMC; the requirement for CE‑LVD is determined by operating voltage:
AC power supply: 50 V < rated voltage ≤ 1000 V, LVD compliance is mandatory;
DC power supply: 75 V < rated voltage ≤ 1500 V, LVD compliance is mandatory.
Products operating below the above voltage thresholds are not subject to mandatory LVD requirements, and only CE‑EMC compliance is required. Enterprises may voluntarily complete LVD testing for product competitiveness demonstration or key customer factory audits.
2. Wireless Electronic Products (with RF transmit functions such as Bluetooth, WiFi, LoRa, 30MHz~1000MHz, Zigbee)
Requirements are specified as follows:
CE‑EMC: Compliance is not judged based on whether the product can work without wireless functions. If the equipment contains digital circuits, switching power supplies or other circuits likely to generate electromagnetic interference, it must comply with the EMC Directive.
CE‑LVD: Still subject to the above voltage threshold rules. LVD compliance is NOT mandatory for all wireless products.
CE‑RED: Any product built with wireless transmitting modules intended for sale in the EU must comply with this directive, which regulates radio spectrum compliance to avoid interference with local communications.
Supplementary Note:
Low‑voltage consumer wireless products are exempt from LVD constraints. However, if sold to end consumers, they need to comply with the EU GPSR (General Product Safety Regulation) and complete product safety risk assessment.
